What to do if your Website was Hacked

The common methods for hackers to cause you problems are as follows:

The most common Hack is the Spyware hack.

This hack starts with your personal PC getting infected with Spyware.
This type of spyware gains access to your FTP program and uses it to login to your website.
To remove this you first must be sure your PC is clean of Spyware!!!
First close any browsers and be sure your Anti Virus is up to date.
If you do not have a good Anti Virus software or yours is outdated then I suggest the use of Kaspersky or McAfee Anti Virus software.
After you are sure the Spyware is removed then change the passwords to your website via the Billing system.
If you need help with this open a helpdesk ticket.
Next FTP to your Website and look for any files that have been changed in past 30 days.
The most common infected files are index files
Download them and open in your choice of editor but do not open any in a browser or visual (WYSIWYG)  editor as you will just infect your PC again.
Look for javascript code the Spyware added to the file and remove such code.
This hack is the worst one as it places a javascript code on your website pages which infects all others that go to your site!!

That should end your problems.

The other common hack is due to security problems with PHP or Perl Software you are using.
In many cases the only solution is to revert to backup so as to fix the damage.

Check for any files that are recent on your website to be sure no virus, spyware or hacker files was added.
After a backup is restored you then must quickly upgrade the software to the current version.

These two are the most common problems website owners run into.
If you are careful you can avoid both by being sure your Personal PC is clean and any applications your are using is hacker safe.
