Common Outlook problems

Outlook errors are mostly due to either improper setup or Port blocking by the ISP.

To avoid the Port block issue we setup port 26 as a alternative port.
We have videos on using Outlook which can help if you are not sure where to change this setting,

Other than this the most common problem is either wrong user / password was entered or one of the following was set wrong:

  • User Name must be full email address (user@domain.com)
  • My Server requires authentication must be checked.
  • In advanced for authentication you can use the incoming settings or enter the settings as either will work.
  • The user name must be your full email address.
  • The pop and SMTP setting must both be mail. plus what ever your domain name is.

That's about all there is that can go wrong other than problems with older versions of outlook.
Outlook 2000 for instance will go offtrack after a few hours go by and requires you to close it and in some cases reboot or, if you are confident about using task manger, end any outlook tasks in task manager.

It's quite common to have two or even three outlook tasks running with outlook 2000 and when this happens you will get connect errors and in the worse case a PC crash.

Newer versions of Outlook are better and it's best to upgrade to avoid this type of problem.
